There’s no better season than summer for fresh fruit. Follow these fruit hacks to make your life a little bit easier when prepping for a picnic or beach party.
Peel an Orange Like a Pro
Apparently, we’ve been peeling our oranges wrong all this time.
Materials:
- Oranges (or tangerines)
- Knife
- Cutting board
Directions:
Using a knife, cut either end off of an orange, then make a slit in the center (just don’t cut all the way through). Carefully unfold your orange, from left to right, to reveal perfectly sliced segments.

Cut All Your Grapes at Once
The only way you’ll ever cut grapes again.
Materials:
- Grapes
- 2 plates
- Long serrated knife
Directions:
Remove a handful of grapes from the stem and spread them evenly on a dinner plate. Take a second dinner plate of the same size and place it on top of the grapes, face up. Press one hand firmly on top of the top plate, then run a long serrated knife through the opening between the plates, slicing the grapes in half. This trick also works for cherry tomatoes and olives, so it’s great for salads.

Two Minutes to the Perfect Mango
Eating a mango has never been so easy.
Materials:
- Mango
- Kitchen knife
- Paring knife
- Cutting board
- Drinking glass (optional)
Directions:
Roll your mango on a table or flat surface several times to further soften it then, using a kitchen knife, cut both cheeks off of the mango avoiding the seed in the center. Use a paring knife to make parallel cuts in the flesh of the mango, being careful not to cut through the skin. Then, turn the mango 1/4 rotation to make another set of parallel cuts, creating a cross hatch or checkerboard pattern. To remove the chunks of mango, use a large spoon to scoop out the slices or turn the scored mango flesh inside out by pushing the skin up from underneath. Then, use a knife or spoon to scrape the mango chunks off of the skin. As an alternative, you can also run the scored mango flesh along the edge of a drinking glass. The cubed mango will end up inside the glass, leaving you with a peel that you can then discard.

Keep Your Apples Fresh AF
Never again worry about your apples turning brown.
Materials:
- Apple
- Knife (or apple corer)
- Rubberband
Directions:
After you’ve washed and dried your apple, use a knife to slice it into segments (you can also use an apple corer if you prefer). Put the pieces back together and wrap a rubber band around the entire apple to prevent the slices from browning. The apple should stay fresh for up to several hours.
