Tip your hat to your favorite grads with this great favor how-to featured in my “You’re One Smart Cookie” preschool graduation party.
Time: 15-20 minutes
Cost: $5-10
Materials:
- 4″ x 4″ scrapbook paper square
- 4″ x 1/2″ scrapbook paper strip (note: you will have some paper left over, as the clear plastic tubes are about 3.5 inches wide)
- Embroidery thread
- Brads
- All-purpose glue
- Scissors
- Clear plastic gumball tubes
- Gumballs
Step 1: Use the tip of your scissors to make a small hole in the center of your 4”x 4” scrapbook paper square. Slide one brad through the hole. Make sure you leave just a little bit of room to attach the tassel before securing the brad on the back of the square.
Step 2: Form a circle using your 4” x 1/2” scrapbook paper strip, making sure your circle fits the clear tube. Cut off any excess paper and glue the ends together. Glue the circle on the back of the square in the center. Let it dry.
Step 3: While the hat is drying, make the tassels by wrapping some embroidery thread around one of your 4” x 4” scrapbook squares about 8 times.
Step 4: Hold one end secure and cut through the threads on the other side where the thread hangs off the scrapbook square.
Step 5: Holding the looped end, wind the longest loose thread around the looped end a few times (about a quarter-inch from the top). Leaving enough thread left over to hang from the brad, tie tightly to secure, forming a tassel. Wrap the loose thread around the brad a few times to hang the tassel from the hat.
Step 6: Fill the clear tubes with gumballs and place your fun graduation hats on top of them.
