When Evite showed me some of their new spring graduation invitation designs, I knew I had to do a party inspired by the “World on a String” theme! I love vintage globes and maps, and I love doing parties with travel or global themes.

Throw your own “World on a String” party and invite guests using this free Evite invitation that inspired me for this party!

Since the invitation was inspired by yo-yos, string and globes, I wanted to use a backdrop with a string element while bringing in the colors of a globe. I purchased a large piece of pegboard at my local home store and had them cut it into two 4″ x 4″ pieces for easy transport. I tied it together with clear lacing to make it hinge open at the middle. Then I simply cross-stitched a design on the pegboard using yarn! There are a ton of cross-stitch patterns you can download from the Internet. To further bring in the string element, I used lengths of string tied to a dowel for a pretty statement off the front of the table. I added some large balloons to bring some height to the table and further reinforce the theme. I also rolled up some pages of an atlas and hung them from the balloon strings.

For the sweets, I did globe-inspired cake pops and coordinating mini doughnuts along with sugar cookies. Then I added some chocolate-dipped strawberry cake rolls and added gold ribbon to make them look like little diplomas. Check out the video below for my dessert inspiration.

To bring in the graduation element, I hand-made two mortarboard dessert stands using products from the craft store! You can watch my video on how to make these adorable stands. They are so easy and under $15 apiece, and they can be customized for any color. Every party needs favors, and I always like to give out edible favors if possible! I filled these with blue, silver, and gold Hershey’s Kisses. I mean, every kid (and adult!) would be happy with that, right?

For the party activity, I used these fabulous vintage chalkboards on stands for the photo booth backdrop. They were exactly the right height for the kids to stand in front of and play with the props I made on my die-cut machine. I added some yo-yos that I spray-painted and then just drew a cute globe and a “Class of 2015” with some chalk markers. The kids loved it!
