Time: 1 hour for preparation; 3 hours total
Level of difficulty: Medium
Makes: 6 bath bombs (2 1/2 inches each)
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (4 ounces) citric acid (available at health food stores or online)
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup epsom salt
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon water
- 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
- 4 drops food coloring
- 1 teaspoon glitter (optional)
- free printable gift tag (LINK PLEASE)
Materials:
- Mold for your bath bombs (we used a silicone candy heart mold pan)
- Large glass bowl
- Small glass bowl
- Whisk
- Measuring spoons and cups
Step 1: Mix citric acid, baking soda, epsom salt and cornstarch in a large glass mixing bowl and whisk together.
Step 2: Mix water, vegetable oil and food coloring in a small glass mixing bowl and whisk to combine ingredients.
Step 3: Add glitter to the bottom of your mold (optional).
Step 4: While whisking slowly, add a teaspoon at a time of the wet mixture to the dry mixture. A slight fizzing will occur due to the reaction of the ingredients. Continue to add wet mixture into the dry until your mixture is soft and moist. (Note: You may need to use all of your wet mixture, depending on the batch.)
Step 5: Add the mixture to your molds to the top and add glitter for some extra sparkle. The mixture will expand and rise slightly while setting.
Step 6: After letting them set for approximately 2 hours, remove your bath bombs from the molds. (Note: The timing may depend from batch to batch; you’ll know they’re ready when they become firm and are easy to pull out of the molds.)
We wrapped ours in clear gift bags so our valentines could see the sparkly bath bombs!
