Once upon a time a party stylist (that’s me!) learned that her amazing artist friend who was also too young looking to be a grandma was going to be a grandma and that she was planning a baby shower for her oldest daughter Lexa and first grandchild Max. This made the party stylist (that’s me!) so happy because she knew that their collaboration on this party would make it that much more spectacular and definitely the fairest in the land. So they styled and hosted a beautiful baby shower for family and friends near and far and that’s the end of the fairytale. Just kidding. Of course there’s much more detail than that. The party stylist (yep that’s still me!) would love to tell you the story of the Smart As A Fox Baby Shower!
I’m very excited to share with you this “Smart As A Fox” Baby Shower! Even though I had free reign to style this baby shower with any theme I wanted I still wanted to get a feel for what the mama to be liked and any ideas she might have. My friend Jodi (grandma to be) paints fine art and seriously can make and create anything. Fortunately, we both have the same tastes and can see each other’s artistic visions on a scale like no other. It’s like we can read each other’s mind. This is incredible. So getting to work with her again was exciting for me because we work so well together.
My vision for this theme was about learning and the different elements of learning and exploring. So think books, library, compass, armillary sphere, magnifying glass, telescope, maps, etc. I wanted it to be masculine, rich and classic. But I felt the need to add a baby type element to the set design as well. A dapper, gentleman-like fox was perfect! Hence, the “Smart As A Fox” theme was born.
I was really, really in love with all of the details. Many of the décor items were designed by my colleague Jodi. Whew! Big help. The backdrop was made using a very large ornate frame. We covered the inside of the frame with lots of vintage looking book pages and hung a large book in the center with an incredible custom designed fox book cover. We used antique Italian columns for each side of the table to help with that feel of a beautiful classic library.
On some of the guest tables we hung similar type frames. Jodi made some amazing book paper feathers, book chandeliers and decoupaged her outdoor table and benches with book pages. I love hanging some sort of a chandelier with most of my set designs and this set up was no exception. The cream colored chandelier was covered in vines and moss. Little books were stacked on each arm of the chandelier. Jodi’s daughter Morgan painted the small books to match the color scheme of blues, greens and other earthy tones and the cutest and most clever book titles were added. My favorite book titles were Bushy Tail Hair Care and Whiskers and Tails with a cute drawing. We used wood and metal elements but added softer touches by using greenery and flowers as well. We also used an elegant blue plaid table runner for the main dessert table. Décor items included a metal looking monogram letter “M,” a super cute and detailed handmade fox doll, vintage books crate with greenery and custom library book treat boxes.
A book drop-off table was set up with a beautifully designed fox themed wooden suitcase. There was even an eye-catching fox-themed diaper cake displayed as well. One of the guest tables was adorned with custom wish cards in a library style drawer where guests could write advice and wishes for the new parents, Lexa and Jordan.
My graphic designer is another one of my colleagues that gets exactly what I’m up to and she takes my visions to soaring heights. The invitations she designed were mouth dropping gorgeous. The coordinating printables included a banner, unique straw toppers, bookmarks, table signs, etc. She even designed a library check-out card and wrap to hold the navy blue wooden stamped cutlery sets. A-m-a-z-i-n-g!
The desserts were phenomenal to look at and dazzling to the taste buds! From the to die for fondant cake, artistic macarons, hand-painted sugar cookies, cake pops, cupcakes, fondant cupcake toppers and chocolate dipped cookies the dessert table was flowing with lots of tasty treats.
Guests took home bookmarks and the most charming packaged flavored teas with handmade flavored sugar and wooden spoon.
The baby shower was not only beautiful but was a wonderful celebration for mama to-be Lexa, her hubby and their family and friends. In terms of the theme, the design set up surpassed my vision of expectations. It was a great pleasure to be a part of such a joyous occasion on the new addition to their family. Baby boy Max is here and is the joy of their lives. He’s also very, very adorable and handsome.
