The holidays may be the happiest time of the year, but they’re also the messiest. Just because this time of year can be hard on your home though, doesn’t mean cleaning has to be. While spills and stains are bound to ensue, they’re sure to be no match for your family festivities with these holiday cleaning hacks brought to you by Evite in partnership with Scotch-Brite™ Brand.
The Mess: Red lipstick stain
The Fix: Bright red lipstick is a staple for any woman headed off to a holiday party. The only problem is it stains easily. Well fear not — we’ve got a hack for that. If you’ve got glasses that have been stained, simply rub some salt onto the stain then rinse it with warm water. If the stain is extra stubborn, you can dab some white vinegar onto a paper towel and wipe it along the rim of the glass until the stain is removed. If one of your partygoers got their lipstick on a linen, or even on someone’s shirt, spray hairspray onto the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes before blotting it with a wet cloth. It should come off in no time at all. P.S. You can also use a Scotch-Brite® Non-Scratch Sponge with some warm water.
The Mess: Food crusted onto a casserole dish
The Fix: Between holiday parties, potlucks and Christmas Eve dinner, your casserole dishes are bound to get beat up with baked on food. If you’re trying to combat a baked-on mess, you’re going to need more than warm water. We’ve found that the best method is to cover the bottom of your baking dish with baking soda and dish soap, then let it soak in boiling water for 15-20 minutes. Grab a Scotch-Brite® Heavy Duty Scrub Sponge and continue to sprinkle baking soda over the stubborn stains while you scrub. The abrasive nature of the baking soda combined with the scrubbing powers of the sponge should do the trick.
The Mess: Spilled eggnog
The Fix: Available only once a year, eggnog is undoubtedly one of the best things about the holiday season. But its creamy consistency makes it extra difficult to clean if spilled. No need to worry though because we’ve found a fast and easy method for making the stain disappear. Before your stain can set, blot it with nail polish remover then spray the stain with a mixture of liquid dish soap and water. Blot until you can no longer see the stain and it’ll look just like new.
The Mess: Shattered ornament (or broken glass)
The Fix: If you’re having a holiday party, there’s a good chance that at some point someone will shatter an ornament or break a glass. And tiny shards of glass are the last thing you want at a party — not only are they dangerous, but they’re difficult to pick up. Instead of getting on your hands and knees to pick up each individual piece, grab a Scotch-Brite™ 50% Stickier Lint Roller and roll over all the glass. Voilà!
The Mess: Gravy stain
The Fix: There’s nothing worse than a greasy gravy stain. If your spill has stained the carpet or fabric furniture, start by scraping off as much gravy as you can, then blotting it with baking soda or cornstarch. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then vacuum up the excess. Treat the leftover spot with dish detergent and you’re done.
