Create a Simple Chili Bar for Your End-of-Summer Celebration

The sun is setting on summer so grab your friends and family for an end-of-the-season celebration, featuring a meal that marries summer and fall — chili. Get some quick tips on how to set up a simple and savory chili bar, brought to you by the makers of HORMEL® Chili.

Chili Bar

First, cover your food table with a tablecloth to catch any spills (we love something simple like a summery red-and-white checkered tablecloth, especially if you’re hosting on Labor Day). Then, set some toppings on levels to maximize table space. We used wooden crates but you can also use cake stands or place a pile of books or empty boxes under the tablecloth (this works if you don’t have enough matching levels). For the finishing touch, arrange a bouquet of summer blooms, such as sunflowers, lilies, carnations, delphiniums or gardenias in a vase, bottle or mason jar. Once the decor is set up, fill a large bowl with HORMEL® Chili with Beans and add a serving spoon. Then, next to the bowl of chili, set out smaller bowls (we chose ceramic bowls but feel free to use disposable bowls) and spoons for guests to serve themselves. Set the chili, bowls and utensils on the same side of your chili bar so the serving process is streamlined.

Follow with the appetizing add-ins: We picked tomatoes, corn, green onions, jalapeños, sour cream, avocados, cheese and saltines. Bake (or purchase) cornbread — the perfect pair for chili. Have slightly smaller bowls on hand so you can bring additional toppings to the table where your guests are eating. Who wouldn’t want to top off their chili with even more cheese?
