Marinated in garlic and grated ginger, these grilled teriyaki tofu steaks are the best alternative to BBQ (and totally veg-friendly). Try the recipe below, brought to you by KIKKOMAN®.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Yield: 2 servings
Ingredients:
- 14 ounce package firm tofu
- 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce (we used KIKKOMAN® Teriyaki Marinade & Sauce but you can also use KIKKOMAN® Original Takumi Teriyaki Sauce)
- 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil (we recommend KIKKOMAN® Sesame Oil)
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- Green onion (optional)
Directions:
Step 1: Add teriyaki marinade and sauce to bowl.
Step 2: Mix in ginger and garlic. Gradually stir in sesame oil. (Pro-Tip: The marinade is just as good as a stand-alone sauce, however if you prefer a more herby flavor you can add the ginger, garlic and sesame oil. If you prefer a purer teriyaki flavor, you can skip this step.)
Step 3: Slice tofu into 1/3-inch slices and blot with paper towel. Place tofu in a flat shallow dish. Drizzle marinade over tofu, flip slices and drizzle the rest. Place in the refrigerator to marinate for 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours.
Step 4: Preheat grill to low heat and lightly oil grates.
Step 5: Grill tofu for about 20 minutes, flipping halfway through. Set aside the excess marinade for later.
Step 6: Brush reserved marinade on grilled tofu, then sprinkle with green onion and sesame seeds for garnish.
Enjoy!
