You’re about to march among your classmates in front of all your friends and family — stand out from the crowd with a top-notch grad cap! Gather fellow soon-to-be-grads for a cap decorating party and follow these tips, brought to you by Moe’s Southwest Grill, to make it a memory for the (year)books.
The Prep
When it comes to doing the pre-party prep, you have a few options. You can either have everybody share supplies, ask each guest to bring his or her own supplies, splurge on all the supplies yourself, purchase the supplies but ask friends to pay you back or take a trip to the craft store together. No matter what you decide, stock up on these essentials: a hot-glue gun (opt for cordless), scissors, ribbon, stencils, adhesive letters, fabric paint, paint brushes and washi tape.
Lay down a tablecloth or piece of kraft paper on a large table, then set up individual craft stations for each guest and group the supplies in the center of the table so everyone can reach. Make sure you have multiples of everything (so nobody has to fight for the scissors). Give each guest a small notepad and pen so your friends can brainstorm ideas or sketch out their designs.
Want to pass the hosting test with flying colors? Add some simple decor, like this free printable “Congrats” banner. Or, create a custom phrase using letters from our free alphabet printable and hang it on a wall.
The Food and Drinks
Make it easy on yourself by ordering from a caterer. Customize your menu by selecting something that will satisfy everyone, like a build-your-own taco bar featuring an assortment of toppings and fillings (like this one from Moe’s Southwest Grill). Set out snacks like chips and dip on the craft table for mid-decorating munchies. Order drinks and cookies and ask for utensils and cups so you don’t have to worry about an extra trip to the store.
The Activity
Time to turn drab caps into stand-out masterpieces! Ask each other for inspiration or provide a laptop or magazines so friends who seem stumped can search for more top-of-the-class cap ideas.
Set up a photo wall so you can show off your completed caps, all ready for the big day! Get silly by snapping some pics using our free printable photo props: Just attach them to wooden dowels after you’ve cut them out. Pro tip: Use card stock instead of standard printer paper for sturdier photo props.
The Invitation
Ready to host an A+ party? Send this free Evite invitation or another one from our graduation invitation gallery. If you’re making it a craft potluck, use the “What to Bring” feature on your Evite invitation so you can be sure all supplies are accounted for. Congrats on all you’ve accomplished!
