Materials:
- 9″x13″ cake, unfrosted
- Large cooling rack
- 10″x14″ cake board (available at craft stores) or foil-covered heavy cardboard
- 2 tubs of white frosting (12 ounces each)
- Ruler
- Toothpick
- Green food coloring (preferably gel paste food coloring for the deepest color)
- Piping bag
- Open star icing tip
- 1 bag of Skittles® (41 ounces)
- 2 paper straws (we used green and white striped)
- Scissors
- Serving tray (at least 12″ x 16″ to accommodate border of SNICKERS®)
- SNICKERS® FUN SIZE® and SNICKERS® MINIATURES
Step 1: Place a large cooling rack over your cake pan, then flip the cake over and out of the pan to cool. (Tip: Generously butter and flour your cake pan — or use nonstick cooking spray with flour in it — before baking to ensure the cake comes out cleanly.) Once the cake is cool, place the cake board over the cake and flip it over again so the cake is sitting on the board.
Step 2: Evenly spread 1 tub of white frosting along the top and sides of cake.

Step 3: Using a clean ruler and a toothpick, lightly score the “50-yard line” in the middle of the cake. Then, using the same method, lightly score two evenly spaced lines to the right and left of your 50-yard line (2″ apart), leaving 2.5″ on each end for the end zones. (Note: this cake depicts only five of 10 standard football field yard lines to accommodate the cake size.)

Step 4: Use a mixer to blend a tub of white frosting with green food coloring until you achieve desired color. (Tip: Gel paste food coloring allows for more saturated color than liquid gel food coloring or traditional liquid food coloring.) Then, using a small open star icing tip and a piping bag, gently pipe green frosting across the cake to resemble grass, leaving the scored area bare to look like white yard lines.

Step 5: Choose two team colors and arrange 11 Skittles® on either side of the 50-yard line to symbolize football players. Fill in the the two end zones of the cake with a variety of multi-colored Skittles®.

Step 6: To create each goalpost: Cut 2″ off one end of a paper straw and set aside. Measure 1 1/2″ up the remaining piece of straw and carefully cut a slit into the straw about halfway through (do not cut all the way across the straw). Without turning the straw, repeat on the other end, being careful to cut your second slit to match the first so you can fold both sides of your goalpost up. Without turning your straw, carefully cut a matching third slit at the halfway point between your two other slits.
Step 7: Flatten one of the ends of the original 2″ piece of straw you set aside in Step 6. To assemble your goalpost, fit the flattened end of the smaller piece of straw into the middle slit of the larger piece of straw. Reinforce with clear plastic tape if necessary. Then fold the two sides of the larger piece upwards. Repeat with your second paper straw to create a second goalpost. Stick one into each end of your field.
Step 8: Place your cake on a serving tray and decorate the surrounding “stadium” with SNICKERS® spectators.
