We hosted an afternoon kids’ Halloween party with a modern twist by painting pumpkins for decor (great to display around the home after the party) and setting up candy cornhole, a photo booth and a bubble station. Ghost-shaped marshmallow treats were served — and disappeared quickly!
Decorations: Hand-painted pumpkins replaced traditional jack-o’-lanterns for a not-so-scary kid-friendly centerpiece. We used Sharpie Oil- Based Paint Markers to stencil letters on the pumpkins for a hint of homemade.
By mixing and matching pumpkins in different sizes, we tried to recreate a mini modern pumpkin patch. We purchased hay bales from Michaels and arranged them around the party space to help with the concept. The pumpkins were placed back inside after the party to add some festive fall flare to our home decor.
Activities: No Halloween party is complete without costumes, so we set up a “photo BOO-th station” featuring festive Halloween props, including mustaches, vampire teeth and other accessories. The kids hung their photos on a magnetic board with decorated clothespins to show off their picture-perfect poses.
In addition to the photo booth, we set up a “BOO bubble station” outside — a great activity for the little ones that’s not too structured and can entertain for hours.
By repurposing an old wooden cornhole game from Target, we put a seasonal spin on the traditional carnival game, creating “candy cornhole.”
Treats: For a simple and sweet no-bake dessert, we made ghost pops by placing ghost marshmallow peeps on striped paper straws.
