Decorations
Part of the madness of March Madness is the excitement of tracking which teams will make it to the Final Four. Get a large piece of poster board and draw all the brackets starting with the initial 65 teams.
Streamers, balloons and college pendants can help dress up your TV room. Add some basketballs, foam fingers and hoops to complete the look.
Attire
Support your favorite team, even if they didn’t make it to the championship game, by donning their colors. Or, dress like a ref in black-and-white stripes (this works well if all the hosts are refs).
Activities
If watching basketball on TV isn’t enough party activity for you, consider playing some games before and after the televised match-up.
And if the game itself isn’t enough basketball for you, start early or finish late with a basketball-themed DVD:
- Hoosiers
- Blue Chips
- Coach Carter
- Finding Forrester
- He Got Game
- Hoop Dreams
- White Men Can’t Jump
- Semi-Pro
- Teen Wolf
Food
If you want to have a dinner party, don’t do it on game day. March Madmen are going to be a lot happier if they can snack on stuff without getting up from the TV. That means you’re in for chips and dips and sausage balls.
A meat and cheese plate would probably get a good workout, but leave the vegetable plate at the grocery store.
For sweets, go small: cookies, brownies and cupcakes frosted like basketballs will score major points.
Drinks
Beer and sports are a perfect match, so have a fridge full of brew. But if you want to shoot long for a 3-pointer, try this cocktail with three different rums.
3-Point Basket (Zombie)
- 1 shot dark rum
- 1 shot white rum
- 1 shot gold/spiced rum
- 1/2 shot apricot brandy
- 1/2 shot lime juice
- 1/2 shot pineapple juice
- Dash of sugar
Stir and serve.
