Backyard Fiesta

It’s party time! Throw a backyard fiesta and say cheers with a celebration under the sun.

For a casual gathering, create a pallet picnic in your backyard. Get cozy and lay blankets and pillows out on the grass (tip: put plastic tablecloths or trash bags on the lawn first to prevent blankets from getting damp). Stack wooden pallets (found at local home improvement stores) on top of the blankets.

For simple yet festive place cards, use a Chalk Ink Marker to write guests’ names on mini sweet peppers. If you make a mistake, you can easily run the pepper under water, wash off the typo and rewrite your guest’s name. Add some texture and an outdoor element to your decor by using terra cotta pot saucers as chargers. Fold napkins lengthwise and wrap them around your terra cotta saucers, then place an additional plate on top of the saucer.

Add a burst of color to your table by making these DIY double-dipped terra cotta pots and pop in colorful daisies, sunflowers and other greenery.

When the weather gets warm, mix up a pitcher of red wine sangria. It’s also a host-friendly drink, since you can make it the night before and refrigerate it until you’re ready to serve. TIp: Save extra fruit slices to garnish your drinks once they’re poured.

What’s a fiesta without chips and salsa? Use a galvanized tray to hold chips, guacamole and salsa (we like Old El Paso Thick N’ Chunky Mild Salsa). By presenting your food on a tray, you can easily pass the chips and salsa around. You know everyone will be reaching for more!

For a fun grab-and-go appetizer, pop these taco bites into the oven, top with goodies and munch on them with your amigos.

Make your main dish a breeze as well. Prep ground beef tacos, then pass them around on a tray (taco shells that can stand on their own, such as Old El Paso Stand ‘n Stuff Taco Shells and Stand ‘n Stuff Nacho Cheese Flavored Taco Shells, make them easy to serve).

No party is complete without a festive activity: Invite guests to take a whack at a colorful piñata! Hand out treat bags for guests to collect the candy.

For dessert, pass out store-bought churros. Cut strips of parchment paper to wrap around the center of the churros so guests can keep their hands clean.
