Hey, sweet thang. Indulge your partner’s sweet tooth with this conversation heart cake and use Airheads alphabet letters to create a charming message for that special someone.
Time: 2 hours
Level of difficulty: Medium
Makes: 1 heart-shaped cake
Ingredients:
- Food coloring of your choice
- Two containers of store-bought frosting
- Two boxes of store-bought cake mix and listed ingredients
- Six Airheads
Materials:
- 8″ square cake pan
- 8″ round cake pan
- Serrated knife
- Spatula
- Cookie cutter alphabet letters
- Large mixing bowl
- Toothpicks (optional)
Step 1: Bake cakes according to box directions, using a circle and a square baking pan.
Step 2: Once cakes have cooled, level them using a cake leveler or serrated knife.
Step 3: Flip cakes upside down on cutting board and cut your round cake in half.
Step 4: Carefully place cake on desired serving platter. Place about three tablespoons of frosting in between cakes to secure. Tip: Place your cake in the freezer for 15 minutes to allow the frosting to set.
Step 5: Mix two drops of desired food coloring with one container of white store-bought frosting to create your conversation heart color. Tip: If you use store-bought icing, whip it in a mixer for a few minutes. It will double in size so you can frost more cakes/cookies with the same amount.
Step 6: Frost the cake using a spatula or knife to level the frosting.
Step 7: Make your conversation heart letters by using Airheads and alphabet cookie cutters. Tip: Use toothpicks to help remove Airheads from cookie cutter. If using the same cookie cutter twice, wash in between uses.
Step 8: Place letters and serve.
