Since March 2020, almost 16 million people have been invited to a virtual party with an Evite invitation

The year anniversary of COVID-19 and maintaining physical distance just passed and, with it, came President Joe Biden’s announcement that Americans may be able to safely celebrate the Fourth of July in person with their family and friends. In honor of this milestone and news, Evite took a look at how Americans continued to celebrate and party safely over the past year, from virtual watch parties to baby showers and weddings! It also released brand new Fourth of July save the dates to get the soon-to-be party started.

According to Evite’s data that was collected on March 05, 2021, 15,848,566 guests had been invited to a virtual party since March 2020. That’s just a smidge less than three times the population of Colorado! Hosts were definitely missing time spent in groups of loved ones as the average number of guests invited to the virtual events was 34. The top five events in terms of how many people were invited to them included: birthdays (2.6M), baby showers/sprinkles (1.9M), weddings (668K), happy hours (367K), and bridal showers (274K).

This wasn’t the only way people interacted in the last year though. In May of 2020, it was reported that millions of Americans were watching more than an extra workday worth of content per week, viewing eight more hours than they were two months earlier in March. Evite’s data shares that this viewing wasn’t all done alone as watch parties proved to be incredibly popular throughout the pandemic. The top five most popular watch party themes of the year were:

  1. War movie watching parties (approximately 109k guests)
  2. Netflix watching parties (approximately 26k guests)
  3. Election watching parties (approximately 13k guests)
  4. Documentary watching parties (approximately 6k guests)
  5. Hamilton watching parties (approximately 4k guests)

While countless things, including people’s movie-viewing habits, have changed over the past year, the desire to celebrate hasn’t. Evite found that nearly 40K people have been invited to St.Patrick’s Day parties with Evite invitations, with some of the events taking place virtually.

“Evite is so excited about the positive news surrounding the future of parties and getting together, but continues to strongly recommend reviewing local CDC guidelines and maintaining safe distances from other party-goers if you are to attend an event in person,” said Casey Martinez, party specialist at Evite. “We believe that gathering safely with all the people that we have missed the past year is right around the corner and can’t wait to help you share your very anticipated invitations to in-person events when it is okay to do so.”

Evite is getting ready to soon help guests RSVP “Yes” to all the parties post-pandemic times are sure to bring (we’re looking at you, Fourth of July). In the meantime, browse digital invitations for your baby showers, weddings, birthday parties and more.
